Goose Island Beer Co. Wins Sage Lifetime Achievement Award

Goose Island Beer Co. of Chicago, Illinois was awarded a major award last week at
Sage Summit 2011 in Washington, DC.
Goose Island won in the category of Lifetime Achievement Award. Mike Sands, Goose Island Controller, received the award from Pascal Houillan, CEO of Sage North America and was joined by Paul Ziliak of xkzero during the Customer Keynote at the Conference.
Goose Island Beer Co. got its start in 1988 as a popular Chicago brew pub. The company, named one of "America’s 20 Best Breweries" in Food and Wine Magazine, has grown into a successful brewing operation, producing and distributing 145,000 barrels of beer a year to 26 states plus select areas in Europe. The company has relied on Sage solutions for nearly its entire history.
Starting out with Sage BusinessWorks Accounting to manage the brew pub’s operations, Goose Island expanded into a full-fledged brewery and moved over to Sage ERP MAS 200 in order to better manufacture, stock, and sell its products. The ability of Sage ERP MAS to calculate out to many decimal points has helped the brewery become highly accurate in production. Various ingredients that might be used in small amounts to produce a large batch are reduced into minute quantities when the cost per bottle is calculated. That fine precision ensures its costs stay highly accurate during production. While rounding might result in a variance of only a few pennies, when multiplied by tens of thousands of bottles, it becomes significant. When Goose Island started using Sage solutions, it produced less than $2 million annually in beer, but, with the help of Sage ERP MAS 200, it has become a company with sales in excess of $35 million.
