Configuring MAS 90 for the iPad - Poor Man's Edition
We took the plunge with iPads last week and with the purchase of a $14.99 application we were running MAS 90 on the iPad via our terminal server literally within minutes.
If you have never thought of MAS 90 or MAS 200 as applications supporting touch screen technology the iPad will have you thinking again.
So far we have not found any real limits to using the applications. The navigation is too clunky for a power user, but for an executive or a salesperson this is a very cheap and useful way to check inventory, or place simple orders. The pop up keyboard works nicely (the return key will guide the user through the normal tab stops), and the function keys along with CTL, ALT, ESC and the like are all there. 800 x 600 resolution seems to provide the best display results.
Obviously once you get to your server you can run any application including MAS 200 or MAS 500, Outlook and so on.
We've found that showing this to a client or a prospect creates a lot of buzz in the room.
We've documented the setup below:
1. Purchase Wyse PocketCloud RDP from the App Store
2. Provide your login information and connect to your terminal server
3. Launch your MAS 90 and start using it! The popup keyboard work reasonably well and should be more than effective for a sales person or an executive. This will not support heavy data entry, but considering the ability to use function keys such as F2 and F4 for name searches, the presense of a virtual mouse to support right clicks, the ability to print Crystal Reports or Forms, and likely anything else - there is a lot to like about this solution.
