Sage KnowledgeSync Free Edition Retired

Vineyardsoft Corporation, publishers of KnowledgeSync software, a data monitoring and alerts tool promoted by Sage, has announced that effective January 31, 2012 they will no longer offer the free 'Professional Edition' of the software which has been shipping with the Sage ERP products for some time.
Vineyardsoft went on to explain in an email notification that the decision to no longer offer the free edition is based on the feedback from the Sage Partner Channel that included some of the following points:
- Simplify Ordering. A single edition (Sage KnowledgeSync Enterprise Edition) with an option of modules (Alerts, Reports, Workflow Actions), and "connections" makes it easier to customers to understand and for partners to order.
- Increase the opportunity for customers to benefit from Knowledgesync and for partners to promote it. Vineyardsoft Corporation explained that when a software license is free, a client is reluctant to spend much money on implementing & customizing it. By paying for the solution Vineyardsoft says that clients will be more willing to spend additional dollars to make sure they get their money's worth out of it.
- Increase customer satisfaction with greater functionality. The free price tag of the Professional edition made it appealing, according to Vineyardsoft, but users soon discovered that its limited functionality would require an upgrade to Enterprise edition in order to really benefit from the product.
Sage and Vineyardsoft will continue to accept orders for the Professional Edition until January 31, 2012. Existing customers who have already purchased the Professional Edition (purchase date prior to January 23, 2012) will receive a free upgrade to the Sage KnowledgeSync Enterprise Edition (One Connection Alerts). In order for customers to qualify for this free upgrade they must be current on Maintenance and Support for the Professional Edition.
Vineyardsoft says that Professional Edition customers will have their KnowledgeSync Maintenance and Support contract automatically apply to their Enterprise Edition upgrade. (E.g., a customer with the Professional edition and M&S through 6/30/2012 will get the Enterprise Edition and support on that edition through 6/30/2012.)
The annual M&S price for the Sage KnowledgeSync Enterprise Alerts edition ($399) is the same as the M&S price of the Professional Edition, so clients will not have to pay anything extra for the M&S on their upgraded KnowledgeSync system.
